The 3rd WHEEL seminar in Johannesburg concluded successfully. Participants gathered on December 4th, and seminars were held on December 5th and 6th at JBS Park, University of Johannesburg. From December 7th to 10th, we conducted a field excursion, meticulously tracing the strata of the 3-billion-year-old Witwatersrand Supergroup from the lower to the upper units and observing sedimentary basins deposited on some of the world’s oldest continents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The symposium brought together participants from 11 countries, including South Africa, Japan, Egypt, Ghana, the United States, Brazil, Nigeria, Botswana, Russia, Moldova, and Zimbabwe. It featured presentations and discussions spanning the entire history of Earth, with each region contributing unique perspectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The symposium began with an overview talk on South Africa by Professor Axel Hofmann of the University of Johannesburg. This was followed by presentations from Egypt, Scandinavia, Brazil, Ghana, Nigeria, Botswana, Japan, Australia, and other regions, showcasing a wide array of topics and insights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
